Doing Future Builders in conjunction with a BTh Degree!
How does it work?
The Future Builders awards can be made in conjunction with a degreee to students choosing appropriate options. This course can provide a perfect combination of special modules in Children’s Ministry with Theology, Mission and Pastoral Studies, together with assessed placements in a Children’s Ministry setting. Admission to the BTh is entirely separate from Future Builders. We encourage all suitable Future Builders candidates to apply.
The first year/Certificate
The first year follows the traditional Future Builders format with two days a week in seminars and lectures on Children’s Ministry, Bible and Theology. This is complemented by an extended placement, involving both local church work and also team and event based mission (e.g. Spring Harvest’s work with the 5-7’s).
The second year/Diploma
Students take further options in Biblical Studies, Mission, Pastoral Studies and Counselling together with more advanced modules in Children’s and Family-based ministry. Second year placements provide new and more stretching opportunities involving periods away from Birmingham helping with Camps.
The third year/Honours degree
Besides further coursework, this year sees a placement expecting a greater degree of maturity and attention to “best practice”, while continuing to benefit from expert supervision and mentoring.
This placement or a special interest fostered by any of the taught modules forms the basis for a dissertation, a written or multimedia project on some aspect of Children’s ministry
At the end of the three years, students are awarded a Future Builders Advanced Diploma as well as a traditionally classified honours degree in Applied Theology.
Accommodation
Students will be linked with a church-based children’s ministry for the duration of their course. Usually, the church will provide accommodation free of charge. Placement and church links will all be discussed at length during the applications process so that, as far as possible, students can be certain about their accommodation before starting the course.
How Much Does it cost?
The BTh with Future Builders awards costs £3650 per year.
Government Funding
Students applying for the three-year degree course are eligible for government grants and student loans, potentially amounting to £3000 a year, depending on the financial situation of the student.
The College and University framework
The admissions criteria for students under 21 require 2 A-levels, and for mature students, qualifications and experience in line with national guidelines.
