We have built an Honours Degree programme which focuses on the practical and personal development of the Christian worker, whilst combining it with the academic rigour and respectability of a degree in applied theology. Lectures will include standard theological modules such as doctrine, biblical studies and church history, so that students are clear in their theological knowledge before teaching our children. It will also teach at academic level specifically children’s work related modules such as good practice, how to communicate with children, and working with tweenagers.
This degree programme has been awarded ‘subject to validation’ status from a British University, and can enrol students as early as this September.
Each student will be placed with an experienced children's worker who will work alongside them in a real workplace situation throughout the year. The student will become their apprentice. In addition to this, the students will join teams in national children’s events, working alongside experienced national children’s work leaders.
With all this experience, students will be encouraged to apply the lessons of the classroom to the workplace, and talk through their experiences with their placement supervisors.
The degree forms a unique blend of academic and theoretical training and practical applied experience ideally equipping future children’s workers for the church.
This Degree programme will lead to a BTh (hons) in mission (3 years), but it can also be taken at Diploma level (2 years) and Certificate level (1 year). In fact, it is so flexible that you need to come and talk with us about the programme that could be made to suit you.
